4 soft sub rolls, approximately 7-inches long or 1 loaf Cuban
bread (soft French or Italian bread may be substituted
prepared yellow mustard
1/2 lb Smithfield Lean Generation Virginia Brand Ham, thinly sliced
1/2 lb roast pork thinly sliced
1/2 lb Swiss cheese, thinly sliced
1/4 to 1 cup thin dill pickle slices
softened butter
Cooking Directions:
Slice each sub roll horizontally in half. (If using French bread, cut
into 4 sections before cutting open.) Spread each open side of
bread with mustard. Layer ham, pork, Swiss cheese and dill pickle
on each sandwich; cover sandwiches with tops. Heat sandwich
maker; brush butter on each side of sandwich maker. Place
sandwiches inside; close lid to smash sandwich. Grill until cheese
is melted and bread is flat and browned, approximately 8 to 10
minutes. Remove sandwich and slice diagonally, from corner to
corner. Servings: 4.
Kitchen tip: Use a panini machine or waffle iron with metal plates
turned to flat surface. A George Foreman grill may be used or
sandwich can be cooked in a hot griddle with a heavy iron skillet
on top of the sandwich.
